Straight from Ugly Faces Entertainment is the most explosive World record you will hear all year. Defying the patriarchy of her continent’s music circuit, Elly The 22 has released “Candy”; and established the prowess of female energy by doing so. As fun and commercial as this Afrobeat single is, it is likewise evidence of tremendous talent on Elly’s part. Singlehandedly, this Ghanan artist brings both singing and rapping to the table; and annihilates both with flawless precision. After clever, bar-heavy verses, she lunges into an impeccably melodious chorus. One that eternalizes the spirit of summer, with its vibrance and torrid captivation. “I want that candy, yeah!” This song is a catchy celebration of love and attraction, totally embodying the dint of emotions you feel when that special someone crosses your path. Currently, “Candy” is the sweetest thing on international airwaves. Once you get a taste of Elly The 22, and her latest creation, you’ll swiftly return for more.

The death of Maddie Finch, in the first hours of the new year 2018, shook the quaint suburb of La Harpe, Illinois in ways we can not adequately convey. When she was fatally shot inside of her home, the entire, Hancock County mourned. So strongly, in fact, that their grief stretched to the metropolis of Chicago, where an extraordinary emcee was moved to pay homage. That extraordinary emcee is Zip Dot; and that payment of honor is the video to his poignant, new opus— “Used To”.

This record braves such a command over introspection and heartbreaking emotion that few will be able to contest its overwhelmingness. A melancholic ripple of rhodes chords is peppered by the tap of kicks and rimshots; over which, this Baltimore-born, Naperville-repping rapper, floats with lyrical supremacy. With subjects ranging from thoughts of self-harm, to broken romances, and Zip’s untouchable faith in rap, “Used To” is a fantastically vulnerable record. It is the epitome of openheartedness, with a video whose tribute does it even more justice. For Zip Dot, Maddie Finch, and the Stop The Violence movement as a whole, give “Used To” a spin; and stay alert for the next drop this amazing emcee has in store.

Breathlessly immaculate. These are the only words that can so much as closely embody the magic that is “Fall For Me”— and even they do not do it justice. That alone should testify to the talent of Alternative Hip-Hop duo, 12 Signs 21 Sounds. Composed of two Brooklyn women with an extraordinary grasp on lyricism and production, 12 Signs 21 Sounds are making a beeline for mainstream greatness; and their recent release is an incredible impetus. “Fall For Me” sports angelic and melodic vocals with a driving, electric guitar. Raps are plentiful over this rock-esque instrumental; detailing a tumultuous love that is as heavy as the drums carrying the verses. The track proves that 12 Signs 21 Sounds are not simply musicians, but inarguably magicians; casting sonic spells that’ll swiftly enchant any listener. When you combine their wistful, yet majestic singing with their flawlessly alternative production and lyricism, you are gifted a very unique record. One whose sound will take this talented New York duo to heights beyond any of our imaginations.
