Nothing in this world compares to giving back. For artists and creatives, this extends beyond financial charity and philanthropy. It is committing art to a particular people, positive purpose, or message. Okay, perhaps the first sentence was a lie. There is something better than giving back: seeing a sixteen year old girl do so with a marvelous video, and undeniable gift of rap. That is what Atlanta’s V3locity has done with her new, energetic banger, “Wild Out”. As she mentions herself (and what can be seen in the music video), “Wild Out” is an anthem for the kids. It is a turn-up song that, through V3locity’s saucy lyrics, danceable flow, and high-spirited delivery, gives kids everywhere the freedom to let loose. By the looks of the music video it must certainly be a success. Countless scenes show V3locity, as well as other teens alongside her, “wilding out” to her latest release. They dance freely through the rooms and halls of their high-school as if finally able to express themselves. That is the magic of “Wild Out”. That is what V3locity gives back: freedom and expression to the fellow kids in her community. With a radio-ready record like this at only sixteen? The sky is the limit for the talented V3locity; and we cannot imagine what cloud she’ll land on next.

Motor Mouth has perfectly placed nostalgia between electronic synths and boom-bap beats. With three minutes and twenty seconds on the clock, this Hawaii-born, former United States Army soldier casts a light on every Hip-Hop legend whose inspired him thus far. That light refracts into “Back In The Day” featuring Marissa Delmonico. The producer, Darren Vegas contributed instrumental brilliance to this record; guiding it in slowly with a progression of atmospheric synths, frosted by Marissa Delmonico’s enchanting adlibs. Motor Mouth enters just as the muddy bass does, rolling along with the loop of Golden Era drums to a story he spits about his Hip-Hop upbringing. From being “on the courts playing ball with the homies blaring Biggie Smalls” to Eminem blowing his mind with every release, our Los Angeles-based artist displays a vivid love for the culture. This love is so pure and gargantuan that only Marissa’s angelic voice can emulate it. She belts a poppy, yet soulful hook for “Back In The Day”; surging with an identical passion to the track’s creator. On this record, Motor Mouth is golden. You may hear a song full of shoutouts and believe paying homage is the reason this Seattle native excels. That is not the case. It is his ability to tell the story of his upbringing , and be himself entirely, that pays this artform the greatest respect. Continue to honor that; and this emcee will be paid back even sooner.

Some people travel so much, they become an amalgamation of every place they visit. They journey to a new region and easily assimilate into that culture, amazingly making it their own. East Coast rapper, Ray Reaves is one of those people. After a recent move to Toronto, Canada (likewise attaining permanent residence), the chameleon artist offers us “The Only One”; a passionate bop that is more Toronto than your favorite Toronto act. At the very least, it comes dangerously close. “The Only One” is teeming with melody. In crooning to a special someone, Ray Reaves bares the dint of his melodious soul. Certainly, the track upholds a Hip-Hop bounce: colorful synths backed by pattering trap drums. A verse from the emcee even channels his East Coast heritage: raw with lyrical aggression. However, the atmosphere on “The Only One” is insanely alt-R&B. The same alt-R&B forwarded by the stars of OVO Sound. With this record, Ray Reaves adds his own flavor to the sound of his newfound home. What comes of that is an astounding, radio-hungry banger. Give “The Only One” a play, and you too will be counting down the days until Ray Reaves is Canada’s next heralded star.

New York City R&B duo, Majix, is definitely on a mission to dominate both coasts. After a move from their Eastern home to the city of Los Angeles, they have released the titanic “Thirsty”: a piano-driven, R&B banger that sees both singers shine. “Thirsty” borrows elements from both trap and R&B, blending them into a jubilant rush of sounds. With 808s and snares running underneath cinematic progressions, the perfect foundation is laid for the duo’s vocals. And they deliver these impeccably. In a swirl of bliss and soul, Mea and Taylor soar across “Thirsty”. Their spirits are reminiscent of groups such as TLC and SWV; R&B groups who dominated last century. As their modern incarnates, these two are ready to dominate this one. They have the talent, the looks, and with their recent move to the city of dreams, location to make everything come true. Check out the latest single by the breathtaking Majix. We promise, by the end, you will be “Thirsty” for more.

When Chris Rainham, and Dylan Sutherland come together as HALFWAY HUMAN, they are a match made in electronic heaven. While one brings the four-to-the-floor rhythm and groove that no dancefloor on the planet can resist, the other brings a bevy of raps and croons that will keep the party sparkling. It is a powerful chemistry, that nine times out of ten, will result in an infectious, dance smash. “Burr On The Cat”, is evidence enough. As the latest single from this Waterloo, Canada duo, “Burr On The Cat” epitomizes that very, eclectic duality mentioned just sentences prior. In the beginning, Dylan’s energy-building shout is backed by a house-esque chord progression. Briskly, Chris adds a kick and buzzing bassline to the mix; giving a groove to his partner’s already, undulating flow. Instantly, HALFWAY HUMAN has a record fated to pull you out of your seat. Yet, they do not stop here. Chris mixes up the arrangement of the instrumental, giving it breakdowns and sections that Dylan glides easily throughout. From melodic bridges, to whole rap verses, the vocalist of this ingenious duo greatly boosts the energy of “Burr On The Cat”. By the end of its near-four minute one time, you will be sweating with rhythmic delight. Yet, you won’t be able to fight giving it another spin.

New Hampshire is closer to crowning a new star than you may think. As the CEO of Rycore Records, Pockets the Mastermind, dropped his latest “Bad Year” project, he simultaneously proves that there is talent in the East Coast outside of New York. Likewise, that the Manchester-state is on the rise. “Bad Year” is an eight-track opus highlighting the trials and tribulations of Pockets’s 2017. Over a fitting blend of radical, boom-bap to trunk-thumping, energetic trap, Pockets unhinges a monster of lyricism and flow. Not only does he demonstrate the ability to create an enthralling album; but that the songs within it can be just as infectious. “Bad Year” is the ideal album for a riotous, mosh-worthy performance. Let Rycore do its thing, and 2019 will be the exact opposite of his title.

It is extremely rare to see veterans link up with up-and-comers; and even rarer that a radio-ready banger comes of that fateful encounter. For your freshest dose of rarity and originality, the lovely Tanya Nolan presents visuals of her Kirko Bangz-assisted hit, “Love Ya”. Clocking in just short of three minutes, this record is a relatable, emotive dive into R&B. However, its sonics are only half of the equation. The other half is fulfilled by pristine scenes of Tanya Nolan, characters, and Kirko Bangz himself. For every strike on an amorous, organ chord; every step of a trap kick, stuttering hi-hat, and snare’s fall, there is a breath-taking shot of the Texan songbird harmonizing through an aching heart. When Bangz enters the video, the Houston power reaches a climax; with the auto-tuned star crooning to and fro in the studio. Truly, “Love Ya” is a cottony, soul-stirring record; wherein, the romantic turmoils of a rising talent and established star combine to manifest a passionate smash. As Tanya Nolan’s first, prominent release of 2019? Her voice will be ringing throughout our minds for many months to come.

Once play is pressed, an electronic buzz, flavored by various, other EDM-esque synths, will slither calmly into the mix. Sixteen seconds in, it will have bubbled to a climax, before dropping into a groove of Golden Age drums. That is when, Oakland, CA rapper, DJ Free Leonard attacks the mic; and “Let’s Get It In” officially takes off. There are zero distractions on this four-minute opus. No exuberant autotuned melodies; no mumbled, street fables; no unnecessary shrieks or shouts. There is only DJ Free Leonard, and a bottomless pit of bars. The West Coast rapper, seasoned by the Young Dirty Bastard (Wu Tang) feature that blesses his hook, is at his utmost philosophical on this record. He dissects various aspects in his life, especially questioning the importance of certain decisions he has made. Most of all, he champions living; devoting whole verses to bestowing wisdom he’s gained through the lessons he has learned. “Let’s Get It In” is a very insightful listen. It is the mark of a man who has come out of the better end of tribulation; and is now ready to devote every waking breath to this music he loves so much.
