Obviously, the anticipation for K3’s latest project, “LoveTape” has been at an all time high. That much can be gathered from the mixtape’s opener, “#LoveTapeOTW”, wherein a plethora of locals and fans of the Cleveland rapper alike share praises of his talent and yearning to hear his upcoming work. Once the opus gets rolling, we know exactly why. Both lyrically and productively “LoveTape” is astronomical. For fifteen tracks, spanning approximately fifty minutes, K3 gives a sensual, yet Hip-Hop take on Midwest love. With an instrumental style that blends R&B with fragments of Trap and old-school Hip-Hop, plus a flow that flirts along the border between conversation and rap, this Ohio artist cranks out a list of bangers that both Drake and Bryson Tiller would have to admire. “Midnight Thoughts”, “In Too Deep”, “Ashanti”, “Let Me Know” (feat. TYuS) and “LoveTape” (feat. Ye Ali) are just a few examples of that astonishment. Truly, K3 has crafted a perpetual mood with “LoveTape”; and that type of artistry is precisely what separates the rookies from the greats. As far as this LP goes, greatness is definitely within this man’s reach.

On your first listen to “Breathe (Ghetto Lullaby)”, by Apollon The Don, you may mistake the lyricist to be a fresh, Californian upstart. The whistling synth playing the back of his production harkens to G-Funk; whilst his paced, yet deliberate flow is reminiscent of the same LA legends that pioneered that style. It will come as a shock to learn that this gifted emcee is actually a native of Atlanta; however, that piece of information makes “Breathe” all the more jaw-dropping. For, it exists so greatly outside of the trap trend that currently grips his environment. From a young rapper emerging from Clayton County (Zone 3), the lyrical depth of his verses and Southern, soulful inflection of his bridges and hooks are a breath of fresh air. Apollon The Don proves on “Breathe” that he is a descendant of the greats who architected this art-form in the Golden Era. He commits his pen to storytelling; narrating the various plights of growing up in the impoverished ghettos of our country. “Breathe (Ghetto Lullaby)” is a record, that merges West Coast production, with deep, conscious lyricism and a soul-stirring, Southern harmony. If you have been searching for a fresh beacon of Hip-Hop hope to shine out of Atlanta, Apollon The Don is the answer. And he is a radiant one, at that.

A soulful, old school beat makes every lyric Lui Vi spits hit ten times harder. By the end of “Let It Go”, he has worked magic over the kiid twan production and stepped that much further down his path to excellence. The Chicago-born/Atlanta-based rapper has released myriad records on his Soundcloud— most racking in tens of thousands of plays— however, “Let It Go” is an evolution in artistry. Albeit, competent with creating hardbody, self-produced bangers, he proves on his latest single that he has even more to offer. “Let It Be” is a pivotal record in that regard. It highlights Lui Vi’s breathtaking potential as an emcee, through a use of narrative rhymes and a charismatic flow that suits his star-studded sonics. Even the hook is wafting with intensity, as Lui Vi can be heard crooning colorfully across the soul-sampled chorus. “Let It Go” has already pulled in seven thousand plays; and if there is any love left for pure, soul-stirring Hip-Hop, he’ll get a million more.

On-the-verge artist, Sherm STX, is a man on a mission. His EP "Until Later" is an inspiration filled with a promise for the future, heartfelt conscious newage lyrics, and a elevated hiphop soundtrack. Sherm is the bridge between the old and new. At the age of 18, he displayed much wisdom and the mental depth of a old soul while recording the project. However, also giving a fresh perspective never seen before in hiphop to give breath to the culture. Enjoy "Until Later" on Soundcloud and join Sherm STX's growing movement.

Compton rapper, Mondoe, leaves no one behind and nothing to be desired on his new album, “Now Eyez On Me”. From the seeds planted by NWA and Death Row, then watered by the Kendrick Lamar and his TDE outfit, Mondoe is growing his own tree of hometown glory. And from its fruit, he’s making sure everybody around him eats. For, “Now Eyes On Me” is loaded with guest features; all to which Mondoe perfectly plays host. He is the nucleus of every record, with each sonic and lyrical visitor orbiting smoothly around him. As the cover suggests, this album is a strong ode to his musical inspirations and forefathers; whose spirits fly vibrantly throughout each and every tune. The ghost of Tupac Shakur moves like a poltergeist through his intro-vocals on tracks such as “The City”, ft. A1krashin, and title track, “Now Eyez On Me”. Every other track, albeit seasoned with strong, trap instrumentation, hardly abandon his Californian pride. Whether by synth or bassline, each joint furthers the legacy of that West Coast G-Funk he knows so well. A duo of my favorite records from this album happen to be “Temptation” (ft. Yondo & Iman), and “Money Calling” (ft. Fred Nice). These tracks bolster powerful R&B inflections, and showcase a different aspect of the Los Angeles rapper. Where “Temptation” is slow-burning and risque; “Money Calling” holds an colorful, infallible, club-ready bounce. Through these alternate dimensions of his album, Mondoe displays the diverse influence of his town. “Now Eyez On Me” is his California celebration, full of powerful, radio-ready bangers; showing that the city of Compton will, sooner than later, have a heir to their musical throne.
