Day by day, the international rap scene is expanding. The most current addition to a nigh-endlessly growing roster, is Akash. This Indian born emcee is putting on for New Dehli; and his ten-track offering, “I Wanted To Tell You”, will definitely have the City of Rallies on the map. Already, India is known for it’s outstanding food, gorgeous religions, and even grander history and population. However, Akash is determined for its Hip-Hop potential to be equally recognized. He aims to achieve this acknowledgement through a collection of insanely musical records. Each track on “I Wanted To Tell You” totes its own, idiosyncratic flavor; proffering a unique blend of sounds to the overall body of work. Where tracks such as “Star Studded” (feat. ANS), “Can’t Wait” (feat. ANS), and “Deep” (feat. ANS & Risk) harbor sweet guitars, colorful pianos and other acoustic impressions; tracks like “Studio Therapy” (feat. ANS), “Nvi” (feat. Lea), and the closing cut, “Blue Oceans” (feat. Zaire & Rhondo) are more bass/808-oriented, molding solid, modern-trap anthems. Throughout, Akash proves to be just as versatile as the production backing him. On certain tracks he is unhinged, releasing a torrent of rhymes; whereas on others, he fades into the smoothest, melodious croons. No matter which style he’s rolling with, however, the fledging artist always brings his A game. If “I Wanted To Tell You” is all the proof we have, it is enough to establish New Dehli, and India itself, as the home of one of Hip-Hop’s next, promising, international sensations.

When the national, musical spotlight was first shone on Chicago, the sound of the Midwest city was championed for its exposure of the roughness and violence that plagued its Southside streets. Windy City rappers were rocketed to fame through their ability to express themselves with “Drill Music”; however, since then, a change has transpired. Haven freed themselves from the trap of their war-torn neighborhoods, some of these artists have abandoned the vicious sounds that garnered them attention in the first place; opting for more conscious, introspective art. The change is so powerful, that it has even trickled back into Chicago, and myriad artists are becoming enthralled in positivity. One such rapper is C-ZAR. Although, his hometown is Kankakee, forty miles outside of Chicago city limits, he has been tormented by the same violence nonetheless. Yet, as his upcoming project, “DUALITY EP” will show, he is determined to change for the better. Slated for a March 27th drop, “DUALITY EP” is a call to the G.M.Clan rapper’s inability to escape “evil”, yet innate yearn to do “good”. He previews the sound with two singles, “Different Now” and “Duality (Intro)”. Both records feature guttural, “Drill”-esque production, contrasted by honest, reflective bars. Sometimes seasoned with autotune, C-ZAR dives into the “Duality” of his lifestyle, making certain to live room for the streets, as well as himself, in his lyricism. True to an ancient, Chicago philosophy, the rapper is aiming for Growth & Development; and “DUALITY EP” is his solemn pledge. If you can connect with the tales of a man stuck between right and wrong, “Different Now” and “Duality (Intro)” are perfect for you. When it drops, “DUALITY EP” just might be your favorite of the year.

Detroit has slowly, but surely, been building its own reputation as one of the most lyrical cities in America. Being the birthplace of greats such as Eminem, Big Sean, and most recently, Doughboyz Cashout, and Tee Grizzley; The Motor City has perpetually proven that they are just as prominent with the art of rapping as any other neighboring territory. If you've missed the memo for the past 20 years, upcoming rapper, Zo the Scholar, is an excellent initiation; and his debut EP “Zo: The EP” is seasoned with just enough Detroit flavors to break the ice.

“Zo: The EP” is a five-track venture; with each track feeling unique and independent of the last. The first cut, “Goin Hollywood” gets the ball rolling with a mysterious, keyboard melody supported by skipping claps, hats, and a thumping 808. As one could imagine, Zo is rapping about how motivated he is to go “Hollywood” and see the fruition of his dreams. Track two, “Problematic” is the closest embodiment of the “Detroit sound” you'll find on this album. It features a dark, piano-driven instrumental, laced with a dribbling 808, and more claps, hats and percussion; with Zo himself rapping almost-endlessly about the very violence that plagues his city. That is the magic of Zo the Scholar's rapping. On each one of these tracks (including the last three, “Paradox”, “Space Travelin'” and “Changed Up”), it feels as though Zo will never run out of bars. He treads effortlessly across beats, spitting an infinite amount of lyrics in a style that will surely earn him respect and veneration among his forefathers. Its only a matter of time before D-Town crowns another remarkable rapper. “Zo: The EP” has certainly started the clock.
