TheSirDuke’s newest track, “Salute”, is an anthemic tribute to ‘boss ladies’ worldwide. Running at three minutes with a music video that has already amassed four thousand views, this Windy City banger is almost as powerful as the women it praises. At first, it is introduced by a pounding percussion; an omen to the musical magic that awaits you. Ten seconds in, a profound bass-line impacts the mix, and simultaneously our Chicago emcee leaps into his verse. For every bar he spits, celebrating independent, hard-working women, TheSirDuke is rewarded with the tap of a snare, kick, and sprinkle of melodic tines that flavor his chorus. The way “Salute” ultimately comes together, by these means, is nothing short of awesome. Just as our incredible ‘boss ladies’ worldwide have built themselves from the ground up, “Salute” musically builds, likewise. In three minutes, it transforms from this persistent pound of a percussion into a thunderous, modern-trap smash. One that, if TheSirDuke ever performs it, will have every powerful lady in the audience feeling beyond valued. If you haven’t already, give TheSirDuke’s latest a listen with its music video, and be on the look out for his upcoming project, “N-Evitable”, dropping any day now.

Eighteen years ago, Melvin— in the classic urban drama, “Baby Boy”— gave us some profound insight. Now, eighteen years later, an Orlando rapper is making sure to remind us of that lecture; and drive its point even farther forward than before. For Playboy Ronnie, its paramount to remind his friends and foes of the importance of “Guns And Butter”; and his four-minute, July drop flawlessly does so. Introduced by a sample of that iconic convo, and featuring the likes of 2Tooly, “Gunz And Butter” is a hardbody, street anthem.

An airy melody is splashed by thunderous drums and 808s, whom yield only to the auto-tuned inflections of the two artists coasting them. The hook is unspeakably superb— styled by the grittiness of its delivery, catchiness of its melody, and smoothness of its street-hardened bars. “Guns And Butter” is unlike anything else bubbling in The Sunshine State; and its creator, unlike any other rapper repping Orlando. With a record as distinct and radio-ready as this, its hard to imagine anyone forgetting Melvin’s legendary lesson. Likewise, hard to imagine Playboy Ronnie and 2Tooly not rising to the top.

Growing up in Miami, Florida, Mr. Walkinlick has nurtured an unbreakable relationship with water. As tides of both setback and success washed into the Floridian’s life he kept his eyes on the tides of the Atlantic; knowing his wave would rush upon the city soon. If his latest single is any account, that wave is finally among us, and Mr.Walkinlick is “Splashing On Purpose” in triumph. The product of over a decade spent honing his craft, since days enrolled in North Miami High School, “Splashing On Purpose” is overflowing with mainstream potential. The seraphic vocal of a female sample, winged by the melody of pristine guitars, leads the four-minute, summertime banger. Eventually, the Stack House Entertainment signee himself is baptized within the ocean-like production; delivering a relaxed, Miami-accented chorus over titanic percussion. Mr. Walkinlick uses “Splashing On Purpose” to celebrate his current success, and prophesize even more prosperity. Over hats, snares and 808s, the Southern rapper delivers the ideal anthem for each and every one of us who are out here, and undeniably on our grind. This single is as motivating as it is luxurious; and if Mr. Walkinlick’s determination is anything akin to what his lyrics present, it is destined to chart. Press play, dive in, and try not to drown to your new, summer banger— “Splashing On Purpose”.

With the playoffs underway, the world of basketball is in need of a fresh, new anthem. Something energizing; that’ll power the players down the court, and lift us spectators out of our seats. To say the least, Brandon Mitchell brings all of the above with “25”: a two-minute banger dedicated to Mark Mitchell Jr of the Bishop Miege basketball team. As relentlessly as Mark ravages the court in the accompanying highlights from his 2018-2019 Freshman year, Brandon Mitchell obliterates the mic. He uses “25” to praise God, acknowledge his growth, and yearn for victory and prosperity; all through a well-time flow rippling across a menacing trap beat. Both the energy and message of this record are at an incomparable high; and that makes it an ideal anthem for this sport. For, not only will you feel “25” in your body, with its booming instrumental dribbling through your bones; but you will likewise feel this Kansas City lyricist’s words, destined to drive your spirit on and off the court.

One thing that will always go absolutely respected over here is versatility. The ability, as an artist, to prove that your talent extends beyond just one form of artistry; and how variously you can connect with the audience of the world. After dropping his modern-trap dedication to his younger brother, “25”, Brandon Mitchell is spinning back around with “Dope”; and its sonic difference from the aforementioned banger proves exactly that: he has much more to offer the globe. Featuring Rockomal and Sasha Mari, “Dope” is a more intensely, melody-powered track; bolting a luscious, slow-jam groove that totally rivals the last. It exhibits Brandon Mitchell in a completely different atmosphere; spitting over a colorful chord progression, ghostly background vocals, and bouncing trap drums. The music video that chaperones this drop is just as vibrant; depicting the Kansas emcee, as well as who appears to be Rockomal, rocking to the feel-good smash in the middle of a desert. If not a metaphor for this summery single, it certainly could be. The song is as hot as the earth they are walking on. Between Brandon Mitchell’s rhymes, Rockomal’s and Sasha Mari’s unique, sing-song offerings, and the torrid production that backs them, “Dope” is definitely poised to rule our May, June, and July. And this lyricist, with his immaculate versatility, poised to climb the charts.

Twenty years down the line, the conscious blood of Hip-Hop’s Golden Era is still flowing through the veins of our culture. At the heart of it all sits Dutch rapper, Kynn; and his latest contribution, “Jacob” (featuring Bryan Shortell), is keeping it beating stronger than ever. The Leiden, Netherlands resident utterly snaps on this record. Buoyed atop the silky guitars, and hard-hitting, rock ballad drums of his instrumental, Kynn dives into a poignant story of Jacob: a kid going through the cruel, torturous tribulation of bullying in high school. With bars galore, and a soul-touching inflection to match, the European emcee uses his three and a half minutes of runtime to spearhead a sonic campaign against the epidemic. Obviously, it is pathed to succeed; because, not only will a massive amount of awareness be summoned by this single, but the single, in and of itself, is musically outstanding. Bryan Shortell, a New York artist, provided the hook, and in a gust of beautifully sung vocals, totally brings “Jacob” home. Certainly, the Golden Era legends would be proud of Kynn. For, alongside making magnificent music, filled with conscious, heart-shaking rhymes, this Netherland talent is actually standing for something. In the climate of Hip-Hop’s today, wherein myriad rappers are on their hands and knees, that trait alone makes Kynn invaluable. #nomorebullyshit

“I got the glow!” Despite the vibrant subject of Tef Kaluminoti’s March offering, it may be the most diabolical single of the Spring. His four-and-a-half minute “The Glow” is aggressive and abysmal; pumping with the unstoppable energy of North Carolina. As the first single to his upcoming EP, “AMEN”, this record makes a jaw-dropping declaration. It maneuvers jolting 808s, a rushing melody, and earth-shattering drums and world-splitting rhymes, all to warn that this Rocky Mount rapper should not be ignored. The only thing subtle about “The Glow” is the eerie buzz of an electric guitar that’ll tantalize your headphones about each verse. Otherwise, this track is insanely audacious; with Tef Kaluminoti, and his Juicy J-esque flow and persona, bringing it dangerously full-circle. Keep your ears open for “AMEN” when it drops. If “The Glow” is any indication, we are in for a sinister surprise.
